don’t try this at home: for professional tea drinkers only!

It’s probably not much of a surprise to anyone when we say “we love tea”. We’re fairly confident that most of us here do. We love all aspects of tea and tea culture. It has become an integral part of our lives. We were even beginning to think that we couldn’t get enough of it. Besides the great pleasure we derive from all aspects of the rituals of tea, from selection to consumption, there has always been our strong convictions about teas tremendous health benefits. Our mission statement includes the desire to improve the health of this country by helping more people to drink tea instead of all of the high sugar beverages out there. In fact, we believed that you couldn’t drink too much tea. Well, we discovered a very interesting bit of news that finally made us realize that maybe… just maybe, you could drink too much tea.

There are 2 gentlemen in India, both living in the same district in Burdwan but knowing nothing of each others existence, who happen to have the same unique diet. Both of them consume nothing else but tea. That’s right… you heard me; they live entirely on tea. They drink somewhere between 18 - 22 cups of tea a day, and nothing else. One of them, Bhismadeb Sarker, is 80 years old and has been living solely on tea for 22 years. The other gentleman, Debabrata Dutta, being the younger and less experienced of the two at 62 years, has been living on tea for only a mere 12 years.

This is one situation where we find ourselves saying no, that is just wrong. As much as we love tea and want everyone to drink it for health and pleasure, we just have to put our feet down and say, “People, tea will certainly help you live a healthier, happier life but you must have balance in all things. Please eat some food also.”

We encourage you all to read this article to learn the details of how these men came to start their tea dietary patterns and how their families have reacted to their choice.

Hmm!! Very interesting. Humans are noted for taking many things to extremes. To live a healthy well balanced life. “Everything in moderation” not to excess. Where have we heard this before?? Ha Ha!!….PJF
