green tea, not just for drinking
posted by Sloan | 3 comments

Recently I’ve had a few instances of burnt skin. One instance was caused by the scorching hot pipe on my motorcycle, and the other instance was caused when my mom’s cat, Buddha, decided to take a bite out of my arm while I was holding a mug of (gasp!) extremely hot tea.
Disappointed with the look of my newly decorated legs as we approach swimsuit season, I headed to my local drug store to look for some kind of solution. To my surprise I found this product, advertising green tea as the ultimate cure to my unsightly spots (with “guaranteed results” no less). Kind of ironic that the cause of my problem could also be a part of the solution…
Any of the experts out there have any thoughts about green tea and its potential as a topical ointment?

Yes, green tea is a very good and old remedy for cuts and scrapes and wrinkles. I’m sure you have seen magazine ads with people at spas with teabags over their eyes. The tannins in tea act as an astringent to help shrink swollen tissue. If you add to that what we know now about the anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-bacterial properties of some of the constituents in green tea (white and black will have their effects as well), you can begin to see how green tea can be a beneficial remedy for such things.
You don’t have to go out and buy a commercial product to get these benefits, though. Just slapping on some wet leaves and covering the area in gauze will do the trick.

hi!
its been quite some time since we heard from kristin - nicely written article - true life experience with tea - there are some things that we know can be done and are true but we never do them because we don’t think of them - we ignore them due to the mechanised life we live. these composite experiences which we share with people help us to realise what we are missing out sometimes.
green tea - prevention - right from cardiovascular diseases like coronary heart disease, atherosclerosis, lipoprotein oxidation, platelet aggregation, endothelial cell function, hypertension, coronary circulation and many more - a cup daily of green tea is enough to prevent all this……
green tea - anticarcinogenic potential - right from stomach cancer, oesophageal cancer, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, bladder cancer, skin cancer, lung cancer and many more - all can be prevented again by nothing much but just a few sips of greeen tea.
other effects of green tea that we know of but never really care are - antibacterial effects, antiviral effects, anticarcinogenic action, bone health, kidney stone, diabetes, anti - obesity effects, antidiarrhoeal effects, skin and eye protection and many many more.
basically nowdays every single person and the whole of the world press are talking of the great effects of green tea. i may be wrong but what i have personally realised is that green tea helps in someway or the other - directly or indirectly in all types of problems and in prevention of many disease so the moral of all this is we should by law drink at least one cup of green tea everyday and try and spread the message of green tea benefits to the world.
take care.

Bad Buddha!
I echo Sandy’s words. Tea liquid and wet leaves can be used to wash minor cuts and wounds. Any tea, actually…including Darjeeling teas, right Ankit?
