In two days, I am embarking on an adventure of a lifetime. It’s one that I am slightly unprepared for (my visa is scheduled to arrive the morning of my departure!), but completely and enthusiastically ready to take on.
In August, British Airways sponsored a contest called Face-to-Face and asked entrepreneurs around the country to share why doing business globally would benefit them. One-hundred (100) winners would then charter a plane to London, England on October 13 for a day of workshops on how to accomplish this goal.
From London, each winner could choose to fly anywhere in the world for up to 30 days. Anywhere!
When I received the congratulations email notifying me that I would be joining other winners, I was beyond thrilled. My son and I jumped up and down holding hands, ecstatic about what was to come.
Over the next few weeks, I studied maps and globes and searched Lonely Planet and other travel sites trying to explore my possibilities. I began to understand why parents don’t give their children too many choices!
At this point, I had a high-class problem. So I solicited the help of my fellow tea entrepreneurs from around the world on my LinkedIn Tea Enthusiasts and Entrepreneurs group and asked for input on the two finalists: China and India. It started to only make sense to choose a tea-growing region where I could experience first hand the industry that I work in and so love.
So in two days, with only a carry-on suitcase (I know ladies, I will miss my shoes too!), lots of business cards, and a bottle of Mylanta, I will head east to the tea fields of Southern India.
I will blog and Tweet and Facebook to keep you all abreast of my travels!
Savor this moment!

I would have chosen Yunnan China, without a doubt. I’d not miss the opportunity to see Puerh country. However, Assam isn’t a bad place to visit either. Is that where you’re going? –Teaternity
I eagerly await hearing about your journey. What an exciting opportunity. Safe travel.
Congratulations and enjoy your trip!
Sooooo excited for you, as one who voted for you in the contest. I’m sure you will do ‘tea entrepreneurs’ proud, Naja. You so go, girl!!!

Hi All!
I arrived into Bangalore (Southern India) about 3 hours ago… Exhausted as can be, but thrilled to be in this amazing country.
I will head to Nilgiri Hills which has teas that have been arguably compared to those of the Darjeeling region which is in the northern most part of India.
lochantea, I would love to trek up to Darkeeling to visit the esteemed estates and to meet you, but I hope you will extend a “rain check” for a future visit that allows me more flexibility.
Thanks to all for your enthusiasm and excitement! I will keep you posted.
Cheers,
Naja
