Not all tea is worth writing about. Worldwide tea production averages perhaps three billion pounds, which provides little more than half a pound of tea per person per year. The trend is thus toward more but worse tea everywhere. This does not have to mean you. Tea lovers again have the opportunity previous generations enjoyed of experiencing a whole world of teas, a boundless variety of tastes, aromas, colors. From time immemorial, there have been a happy few whose love of tea led them to seek and find extraordinary treasures. I offer the following inventory of such choice treasures amongst the teas of the world today as an aid and encouragement to discriminating tea lovers. For convenience of organization, let us proceed geographically, but without haste and only so far as interest may lead us, one entry at a time.
